The ‘My Special Places’ programme at Drury School created an augmented reality platform for students to identify and celebrate the special places and spaces the contribute to the spirit of their school.
AwhiCreatures took up residence in very special spots around the school. Spaces and places identified by a whole school research exercise. Students created site and creature specific poems, stories and creative audio works. They also designed creature houses and gave the creatures their own site specific skins.
The creatures resided in the specially built houses and were activated through mobile devices. Older students then guided parents and younger students around the creatures for Calf Club Day.
The programme was supported by Papakura Local Board and Auckland City Council’s Enviroschools Programme.
