LockDown

POETRY FROM LOCKDOWN
Walking along the jetty
I see her
On the island
arms akimbo
watching
angry at her solitude
at the sea
at the deep cuts in her soul
at me
for wasting time
when I should be saving her
and the rest of the world
She doesn’t move
Just watches
Locked down
Inside and out
Left alone to daydream
I want to wave
But instead I stand
wondering at her stillness
her pain
And as I get closer
To where the landing bobs uncertainly in the water
I realise she’s a sign
Wooden and hard
Unmoving
A warning to those coming ashore
To not start fires
That can never be put out.
